MILESTONE: Cheong with Jacques at the outlet opening
THE 100th outlet for Subway Malaysia has been opened at the Space U8 mall in Bukit Jelutong, in a ceremony graced by American embassy counselor for commercial affairs Stephen Jacques.

The restaurant chain had reached their 100th restaurant sooner than expected, said Subway’s development agent in Malaysia, Cynthia Cheong, as the 50th outlet was launched only at the end of 2010.

“Subway Malaysia’s concept in promoting healthier meal options and promotional efforts had been evidently well-received.”

In keeping with the spirit of healthy eating, the first 100 customers of the Subway restaurant in the Space U8 mall were each treated to a free sandwich.

Subway restaurants are now spread throughout the Klang Valley, Penang and Johor and “judging from the encouraging response that we’ve seen so far and the increase in number of people who prefer fresh nutritious food, we’re looking to open more outlets in various locations soon,” said Cheong.

“We’re now more confident than ever of our aggressive growth to go far beyond the 100th restaurant mark in Malaysia.”

Subway Malaysia was recently awarded The Brand-Laureate-SMEs Best Brands Awards as the Best Brand In Foods & Beverages 2011 — Sandwiches.

The restaurant chain is also expected to reach 100 countries worldwide very soon as it is one of the fastest growing chains globally at the moment. The chain is already the world’s largest submarine sandwich franchise, with more than 36,000 restaurants in 99 countries.
